This blog is an evaluation of Nature Based Learning (NBL) in the context of Australian preschool (including ages 3 - 6) from an Educational Design perspective. The focuses of this evaluation are the benefits and challenges of Nature Based Learning, and the methods and reasons for including it in an educational design.

At times in this blog learning is referred to as play. This is in part guided by the wording in the articles it references, and also because of the play-based learning emphasis of the Early Years Learning Framework (Council of Australian Governments, 2009). It will refer to some of the pedagogies that overlap with NBL, such as Risky Play, Place-Based Learning, Forest (bush, beach) Kindergarten and Natural Playspaces/Outdoor Classrooms. Additionally, the blog will be a compilation of the voices of learners and teachers for the consideration of Educational Designers. The images chosen are included to provide visuals of Nature Based Learning in action, with emphasis on children actively participating in learning.
As the writer of this blog, I hope to gain insights for future projects I may be involved in and see beyond the perspective of solely educator when it comes to NBL, towards a design perspective.
